NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout kicks off championship weekend in Rockingham
The NHRA Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout will take to the track at Rockingham Dragway this Friday, Oct. 18, on opening day of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and National Open event.
Through a season long point’s battle in 2019, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition were slotted into the 16-car field while C.J. McDonald and T.J. Tindle will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.
Defending champion Jonathan Anderson is once again pulling double duty as he had qualified in two classes, Super Street and Super Comp. The field also contains 3 former NHRA World Champions and 8 former NHRA Southeast Division Champions
The Moser Sportsman Shootout is unique in that racers from seven entirely different class structures Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will be racing each other. Eliminations will be in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on an eighth-mile.
A $15,000 cash purse is up for grabs with up to $5,000 going to the winner, $2,000 to the runner-up, $1,000 to each of the semifinalists, $700 to the quarterfinalists and $400 to each of the remaining event qualifiers.
