Greg Carrillo plans Denver return with new Top Fuel car, new tuning tandem
Top Fuel racer Greg Carrillo will make his return to the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil in Denver.
Carrillo will debut a new Morgan Lucas Racing-built chassis that will be considerably lighter than his old car and will have tuner Aaron Brooks onboard to work with crew chief Glenn Mikres.
“We needed to go on the Jenny Craig diet,” joked Carrillo, who last completed at the fall Las Vegas event in 2018. “We needed to lose roughly 130 pounds and I figured at the outset to cost $1,000 per pound and it was about right on the nose. We’ve also added a six-disc from Chris Naughtman at CNCPE and we’ll also being adding some compression as well.
“We added Aaron because we thought he was running awesome last two years at Denver with Cruz [Pedregon]. I feel that Aaron is a killer dragster guy, and, with the right components, Glenn and he can compete.”
Carrillo’s new ride will again be sponsored by Santiago's Mexican Restaurants, which has 26 restaurants in the Denver Metro area and just began selling its green chili in Walmarts in the Denver area, as well as Factory Motor Parts, a provider of premium original-equipment and name-brand automotive parts.
