Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix will forever be remembered as the site of three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Shirley Muldowney's 18th and final career win. Muldowney won Top Fuel at the NHRA Fallnationals at what was known then as Firebird Int'l Raceway.
The victory marked a triumphant return for Muldowney, who suffered a devastating and near-career-ending crash at an NHRA event in Montreal in the summer of 1984, Muldowney worked tirelessly to get back into the seat of her dragster, which she did in early 1986, also in Phoenix, then brought her career full circle by claiming the gold in front of a jubilant crown of Phoenix fans.
