Hart, Burkart collect wins at New England Night Of Fire

John Hart in Alcohol Dragster and Phil Burkhart in Alcohol Funny Car led the winners list as New England Dragway hosted the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Night of Fire.

EPPING, N.H., - Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car standouts Josh Hart and Phil Burkhart celebrated in winner’s circle with their teams Saturday at New England Dragway following their final-round victories in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

After beating out Rich McPhillips and Duane Shields in rounds one and two, Hart, Ocala, Fla., squared off against New Hampshire driver Dan Page of Hampstead in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round. The Florida runner blocked out the home crowd as he scored the holeshot victory, racing to 5.322 seconds, 271.08 mph vs. Page’s 5.296 seconds, 275.62 mph.

The North vs. South battle continued into the final round of Top Alcohol Funny Car. This time New York driver Burkhart, hailing from Yorkville, brought the Wally trophy back to the Northeast. Aryan Rochon, Wesley Chapel, Fla., triggered the light late at the Tree, and Burkhart took full advantage, leaving him the dust. Burkhart crossed the finish line at 5.572 seconds, 266.27 mph. Rochon registered a pass of 5.728 seconds, 259.46 mph.

New Jersey driver Shawn Fricke, Flemington, N.J., 8.906 seconds, 175.52 mph bested Edward McCleaft, Shinglehouse, Pa., 8.894 seconds, 172.56 mph in the final round of Super Comp.

Derry, N.H., drivers Deborah DiGenova and Brian Khoury battled it out for the event Wally in the MX Industrial Top Dragster Challenge final round. DiGenova was quicker off the starting line, finishing at 6.834 seconds, 193.35 mph. Khoury was too quick on the track and broke out, clocking in at 6.965 seconds, 191.13 mph, handing DiGenova the Top Dragster win.

In the MXI/Magnaflux/Select Top Sportsman final round, Nick Willard, Leominster, Mass., got off to a great start and never let Jeff Brooks, Fredericksburg, Va., catch up. The Massachusetts racer completed a winning pass of 7.333 seconds, 185.6 mph vs. Brooks, who finished at 6.735 seconds, 203.58 mph.

The other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were Jason Lawrence in Super Street, John MacLean in Super Gas, Trevor Ervin in Stock, Billy Pires in Super Stock, Don Eckel in Comp Eliminator, Aiden Baker in Jr. Dragster 6-9, Josh Leblanc in Jr. Dragster 10-12, Kyle Murray in Jr, Dragster 13-17, Frank Berard Jr. in Pro Stock Snowmobile, Jason Kenny Super Gas Top 8, Jason MacNeil Super Comp Top 8, Allison Smyth in Stock presented by ATI Top 8, and T J Boucher Super Stock presented By ATI Top 8.

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is set to return to the Northeast Division Aug. 4 at Atco Raceway.

EPPING, N.H. - New England Dragway hosts the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Night of Fire on July 21- 23. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. 

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will also run in conjunction with the event along with the Ultimax Pro Stock Snowmobiles 

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at New England Dragway are $15 Friday, $25 Saturday and $15 Sunday. Children 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult

FRIDAY, July 21
Gates open at 7:30 a.m. 
Time trials 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. 
Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualifying is at noon and 4:30 p.m. 
Comp qualifying at 12:30 and 5 p.m.
TAD and TAFC Qualifying 1 and 6 p.m.
Pro Stock Snowmobile at 6:30 p.m.
            
SATURDAY, July 22
Gates open at 8 a.m.  
Time trials continue at 9 a.m. 
Comp qualifying at 10:30 with Rounds 1 & 2 at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.  
Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualify at 3:15 with Rounds 1 and 2 at 6 and 8 p.m.
TAD and TAFC Eliminations at 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

SUNDAY, July 23
Gates open at 8 a.m. 
Eliminations continue at 9 a.m. 
Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman resume at 10:30 a.m.
