Dew looks to repeat in Moser Sportsman Shootout
The NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place Saturday, April 29, in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex.
Through a season long points battle in 2016, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout points earners in each of the seven classes in competition were slotted into the 16-car field; John Garner and Jessica Ogden will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.
Ray Dew, of League City, Texas, captured the 2016 Moser Sportsman Shootout with a win over Steve Collier, and will look to defend his title as he is qualified in the Super Street class for the 2017 competition. To do so, Dew will need to get past the likes of 2014 Lucas Oil Stock National Champion Austin Williams who is qualifying in both Stock and Super Comp, along with former Moser Shootout Champion Slate Cummings who once again qualified for the elusive field in Super Stock.
The Moser Sportsman Shootout is unique in that racers from seven entirely different class structures Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will be racing each other. Eliminations will be in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on an eighth-mile. The Christmas tree is in a full countdown mode with the CrossTalk feature not in use.
A $15,000 cash purse is up for grabs with up to $5,000 going to the winner, $2,000 to the runner-up, $1,000 to each of the semifinalists, $700 to the quarter-finalists and $400 to each of the remaining event qualifiers.
