Troy Coughlin raced to the qualifying lead for the NHRA J&A Service Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. This is the third of 12 events on the schedule and this weekend’s Pro Mod event is co-sponsored by JEGS.com and Plugfones.

The category is racing in the four-wide set-up for the first time in class history. Coughlin quickly adapted to the format with a run of 5.770-seconds at 254.95 mph in his JEGS.com Chevrolet Corvette. Coughlin posted the No. 1 time during the second qualifying session.

"It's pretty exciting, you know,” Coughlin said. “There has been a lot of drama this year amongst the racers and then you throw the four-wide at it. With the sponsors of JEGS and Plugfones coming on board to help sponsor the race is pretty exciting. To be No. 1 after day one, we couldn't be more excited. Thanks to the whole JEGS team and all the guys at Proline for making the power. Hopefully we can continue to have something to show for it tomorrow."

Points leader Mike Castellana is second with his run of 5.787 at 249.16.

Qualifying for the NHRA J&A Service Drag Racing Series continues on Saturday at 2:45 and 5:15 p.m.
