Funny Car racers Ron Capps and Courtney Force, Pro Stock pilot Bo Butner, and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Angelle Sampey are the latest drivers to clinch their berths in NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship playoffs that start in mid-September. Capps, the current NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series points leader in Funny Car, and second-generation racer Force clinched their spots with their second-round victories Sunday at the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals, as did Butner in Pro Stock and former three-time world champ Sampey in Pro Stock Motorcycle. In the following elimination round, Steve Torrence and Brittany Force locked their spots up to race for a title.

Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle teammates Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec locked up their invitations to the postseason in qualifying.

Butner's Summit/KB Racing Pro Stock teammates Jason Line and Greg Anderson are the only other drivers to lock up their positions in the postseason.

After the Sonoma event, only next weekend’s Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil in Seattle, the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, and the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals remain for drivers to earn their berths, which are based on finishing the regular season in the top 10 in points.
