Justin “Big Chief” Shearer, star of Discovery Channel’s reality television series Street Outlaws, plans to compete in his Pro Mod car in the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals Aug. 31-Sept. 5 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

“I’m super excited to have a chance to be part of the U.S. Nationals,’’ Shearer said. “It’s the biggest and most prestigious drag race in the world, so for me, it’s a dream come true. As a kid who always wanted to be a racecar driver, I’m getting closer to that goal. I have a lot of things to finalize first, but I’m smiling from ear-to-ear and just can’t stop.”

Shearer recently appeared in an NHRA public service announcement encouraging hot rod enthusiasts to race at NHRA tracks, and not illegally on public streets. Shearer filmed the PSA while attending the NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. where he met with several NHRA stars and spoke to many fans.

Shearer’s PSA was an important message about the dangers of illegal street racing. Getting racers off the streets was the core ideal for Wally Parks when he founded the NHRA in 1951, promoting racing on dedicated racetracks that provide a controlled environment. For decades, NHRA has worked with law enforcement and public officials to move drag racing off city streets and onto dragstrips.

“We are happy to see Justin take this next step in his career to encourage all his fans to race legally at NHRA member tracks,” said Terry Blount, NHRA vice president of communications and public relations. “We realize Justin has a large following of dedicated fans across the country, and this is a way to emphasize the NHRA’s message of everyone racing legally. We want all of Justin’s fans to know they are welcome at NHRA events and encouraged to race at NHRA member tracks.”

Shearer is busy filming the final episode of the eighth season of Street Outlaws while also preparing his Pro Mod car for the necessary changes needed to compete in the “Big Go” in a few weeks.

The Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals will be televised on the FOX broadcast network and FOX Sports 1, including five hours of live coverage for the Finals on Labor Day (Sept. 5) – 11 a.m. ET on FS1 and 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
