NHRA viewership sets another high mark on FOX Sports 1 telecast
Last weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway was the most-watched NHRA event in the modern TV landscape, delivering 1,367,000 viewers on Sunday’s finals show alone. The FOX Sports 1 telecast had over twice as many viewers as last year’s Atlanta event.
“We are so glad to see our TV shows getting more viewers, since one of our major goals is to increase awareness of this great sport,” said Peter Clifford, NHRA president. “Our partnership with FOX Sports has enabled us to highlight the exceptional racing and exciting drivers of NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing. So many factors have come together to create these great results – the exciting competition of this season, our record-setting run of events won by women pro racers, our new production team, on-air talent and features, and, very important, the support we receive from FOX with quality air times and additional hours of coverage.”
NHRA is up 61 percent in total viewers this season compared to 2015, with more than 11 million viewers tuning in to NHRA telecasts so far, including re-airs. The Sunday telecast from Atlanta Dragway topped the record set on the previous event, of almost 1.3 million viewers for the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 3rd.
NHRA on FOX has 17 live events this season on the 24-race NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, including four events on the FOX broadcast network later this year.
“The continued increase in the ratings and total audience tell us there is a large untapped appetite for NHRA drag racing,” said Ken Adelson, NHRA vice president, executive producer & chief content officer. “We’re going to keep pushing our production efforts to deliver even more dynamic and compelling programming to our new and current fans.”
