NHRA Today: Pro Stock Motorcycle points battle intensifies
With just two races left in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series regular season, the battle for the final spots in the Pro Stock Motorcycle Countdown to the Championship is heating up, with six riders within 100 points fighting for the final berths in the top 10.
Currently Matt Smith sits in the eighth position with 344 points, less than two rounds ahead of Hector Arana Jr., who is just five points ahead of class veteran Steve Johnson, who finds himself perilously in the 10th and final transfer spot. He discussed the situation, and the health of the class, with NHRA’s Lewis Bloom from the Wally Parks NHRA Studio.
Johnson’s 300 points has him just six markers ahead of 11th-place Michael Ray, who is less than a round ahead of Karen Stoffer with rookie Cory Reed just one round behind her. With eight rounds available at the next two events, the battle for the final spots will be tight and intense.
