NHRA reporter Lewis Bloom caught up with Doug Kalitta’s crew chief, Jim Oberhofer, via Skype from the Wally Parks NHRA Studio, where “Jim O” shared his approach to the Countdown to the Championship in 2016.

Oberhofer, who tuned the Kalitta dragster to a runner-up finish at zMAX Dragway to start the first race of the Countdown, also is involved with other Kalitta teams, including defending Funny Car champion Del Worsham, Alexis DeJoria, and J.R. Todd, and would love nothing more than to bring more championships to the team, beginning with Kalitta, who has been racing Top Fuel cars since 1998 and is still seeking his first ever championship.
