NHRA Today: Angelle Sampey discusses 2017 plans
Prior to last weekend’s Dodge NHRA Nationals, NHRA reporters Amanda Busick and Lewis Bloom checked in with Angelle Sampey from the Wally Parks NHRA Studio. A week earlier, she and Cory Reed had announced that they were leaving Star Racing at the end of the season and joining the YNot Racing team. Sampey discusses their decision and plans for next season, which include her continuing to ride a Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Sampey is now 20 years removed from her first win in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle; she posted the first of her 42 victories at Maple Grove Raceway against the late, great Dave Schultz. Sampey was a game changer in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class as George Bryce, her mentor and team owner at the time, was the first to take advantage of a super-lightweight rider, moving the weight around on the Pro Stock Motorcycle to gain excellent 60-foot times. She would go on to win three world championships with the Star team of George and Jackie Bryce.
