Reigning NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Funny Car champ Del Worsham had an incredible weekend at the Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil, setting the national record and reaching the final round before rain delayed the event’s conclusion.

Worsham broke the NHRA national record with both of his last two passes, first with a 3.841-second pass in the third qualifying session and then with an outstanding 3.832-second pass, making him the quickest NHRA Funny Car driver. His second consecutive No. 1 qualifying position was also a career-first.

On Sunday, Worsham beat Tim Gibbons and then Robert Hight to become the only Funny Car driver to reach the semifinals or better in every race on the NHRA Western Swing.

Worsham then defeated Matt Hagan in a semifinal matchup that was the quickest side-by-side Funny Car race ever, 3.86 to 3.88.

Worsham was prepared to battle Ron Capps in the final round, but due to inclement weather and darkness, the final round was moved to NHRA’s next race in Brainerd.

In this edition of NHRA Now, Amanda Busick interviewed Worsham from the Wally Parks NHRA Studio to talk about his great race and to look ahead to the rest of the season.
