NHRA Now: Record-smashing Funny Car weekend in Seattle
The Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil was a Funny Car statistician’s dream world as nine of the 10 quickest passes in class history were recorded at Pacific Raceways.
Entering the event, Matt Hagan has the quickest elapsed time in class history, a national-record-setting 3.862 during qualifying in Topeka earlier this year, but that number was exceeded or matched nine times in Seattle.
During qualifying, the record was reset three times, first by Courtney Force in the third qualifying session with a 3.855, then two pairs later in the same session by Del Worsham’s 3.841. Worsham lowered the number even further in the fourth qualifying session to a 3.832.
Jack Beckman’s incoming track record of 3.912 from 2015 was bettered 20 times in qualifying by 10 different drivers and 33 times over the course of the event.
