Atco takes team title, father-daughter both win

The team from Atco Raceway racked up 59 points to take home the team championship while four individual racers earned NHRA Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Championships and a trip to Pomona, Calif., for the Summit National Championship in November.

The father-daughter team of Randy and Kaitlyn Krause took home a pair of trophies as they shared the winner’s circle.  Randy won in Super Pro and Kaitlyn in the High School class.  Bryan Balducci had a slight lead at the start but Randy was better at the finish taking the win in 7.720 seconds at 170.74 mph in his dragster.  Kaithlyn used a holeshot to earn her win over Nicholas Coleman running 12.033, 110.78 to Coleman’s 12.094, 111.04 in his ’69 SuperBee.

In Pro it was Denny Boyle of Beacon, N.Y., defeating Mark Dennebaum, Clarks Summit, Pa., who left early with a red light foul start.  Boyle ran it out to a 10.004 second, 134.44 mph lap.

Joining R. Krause and Boyle in Pomona for the National Championship are Dave Sciarretta in Street and Jeff Tisdale in Bike/Sled.  Sciarrette got the early lead against Justin Bruso and held on for a win running of 11.698, 107.43 in is ‘00 GTO  with Bruso posting an 11.599, 116.05 in is ’02 Camaro.  Tisdale won on a holeshot as he covered the quarter-mile in 9.021 seconds at 142.38.

Chasing Atco in the team championship was Numida Dragway and ESTA Safety Park who finished second and third.  Numida scored 51 points and ESTA tallied up 42 in the team standings.

In the Race of Champions competition Mike Daymude and Dave Harvey Jr. lead the way taking wins in Super Pro and Pro respectively.  Daymude, out of Hedgesville, W.V., ended Brian Reklaitis’ day with a 7.433 second lap at 179.63 mph in his ’00 dragster while Harvey held off Paul Thimm Jr. with a 10.955, 118.31 mph run to Thimm’s 9.041, 146.10.

Harvey’s son Dave Harvey III continued with the family theme as he captured the trophy in the Street Race of Champions beating out Brandon Wentzel.  Harvey covered the quarter-mile in 11.851, 105.67 in his ’00 Duster to Wentzel’s 11.716, 111.09.

Rounding out the weekend’s winners was Dale Hamilton, Mount Airy, Md., on his ’00 Hayabusa in the ROC Bike class.  Hamilton went 9.618, 135.82 on his winning lap with Danny Boyer, York, Pa., right on his heels with a 9.960, 128.05 for his runner up finish.
