Aerospace Components NHRA Excellence in Engineering: Chicago 2016
CARY BALES' 76mm TURBOCHARGED HONDA
Carey Bales’ first car in high school was a Honda Accord that he hot rodded, but that machine is a far cry from the DD/AT 2016 Honda Accord he unveiled at Route 66 Raceway, which was the recipient of Aerospace Components NHRA Excellence in Engineering.
Built around the last Pro Stock car to come out of the chassis shop of legendary Don Ness, the car, originally built as a Cobalt, was reskinned in Accord trim and fitted with a 122-cid Honda F20 engine that Bales, who previously competed in the NHRA Sport Compact Series, had previously campaigned in a Honda S2000 in Super Stock.
The plumbing for the single 76mm turbocharger features F1-inspired heat shielding for more efficient cooling that helps the engine reach up to 1,300 horsepower.
