With over 850 racers, 16 classes, and six days of competition the storylines at the 69th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals are endless, but we’ve managed to pick five highlights from this year’s epic event.

Second-generation drag racer Travis Shumake, who is already licensed in Super Comp, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Nostalgia Funny Car, took the next step in his drag racing journey, making the first runs in his own Top Fuel dragster.

During the third round of Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying at the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals, Chris Zgoda’s car caught fire just before the finish line before coming to a stop. Zgoda exited the car under his own power, was examined onsite by the NHRA medical team, and was released.
