Topeka Funny Car results: Q4
NHRA crew chiefs are known for their ability to adapt to tough conditions and that was evident during Saturday's final qualifying Funny Car qualifying session. After a tough Q3 round that produced very few full runs, the competition for bonus points intensified during the final qualifying round where there were numerous full-pulls.
Robert Hight was quickest with a 4.015 in his Auto Club Camaro but that wasn't enough to earn a top-half starting spot. Hight finished qualifying in the No. 9 spot and will race Charlotte winner Shawn Langdon in round one. John Force was less than a hundredth behind his teammate with a 4.022 to grab two bonus points, and Tim Wilkerson also made an impressive tune-up run with a 4.024.
In the end, no one could touch J.R. Todd's 3.924 from Friday night. The low qualifier for the second time this season, Todd also earned a milestone 100th low qualifier award for the Kalitta Motorsports organization.
Round one pairings (lane choice first): J.R. Todd vs. bye; Shawn Langdon vs. Robert Hight; Tommy Johnson Jr. vs. Terry Haddock; Ron Capps vs. Jim Campbell; Tim Wilkerson vs. Jack Wyatt; Matt Hagan vs. Jack Beckman; John Force vs. Dale Creasy; Bob Tasca III vs. Cruz Pedregon.
