Phoenix winner Billy Torrence, who had been stopped in round one in his two outings since then, reached the semifinals with a 3.91 to defeat low qualifier Clay Millican and will take on his son, Steve, in the semifinals.

Mike Salinas, who had the quickest run of round one with a 3.81, almost matched it on a scorchingly-hot track (140 degrees) with a 3.83 to defeat rookie Austin Prock Antron Brown expertly pedaled his way out of tire smoke to get to the finish line ahead of a similarly tractionless Brittany Force to his third semifinal of the season.
