Matt Smith laid down the hurt in the first round of Pro Stock Motorcycle. His 6.813-second pass was only a thousandth from being the quickest of the entire event. He will battle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson rider Angelle Sampey in the second round. All three Harley-Davidson riders posted times within .002-second of each other. That’s the good news. 

The bad news? They’re all .04-second behind Smith. That means the team has its work cut out for itself to get Sampey ready for the second round of competition. 

Joey Gladstone booked himself a matchup with Hector Arana Jr. by defeating Hector Arana Sr. on a holeshot to score his first round win since the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Ryan Oehler also picked up a tight win by defeating Angie Smith by .029-second.
