Chicago Funny Car results: Q3
Tommy Johnson Jr. wheeled his Make-a-Wish Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat to the top of the sheet in the third Funny Car qualifying session at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. The Don Schumacher Racing team ran a 3.933, nearly a tenth of a second quicker than Paul Lee's 4.026 (the second-best pass of the session) to move to third in the qualifying order. That was the highlight in a difficult session on a warm race track at Route 66 Raceway.
Lee made a significant improvement, not in the least because it came in warmer conditions. He stepped up nearly four-hundredths of a second (and back into the field) to the No. 13 position. That won't get him a great matchup on race day, but it did earn the part-time racer a couple of bonus points in his comeback season. Bob Bode also raced back into the ultra-quick field with a 4.053-second pass. Jim Campbell is now on the bump with a 4.055, leaving Justin Schriefer, Dale Creasy Jr. and Terry Haddock outside looking in with one session to go.
