7:09 p.m. -Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 29.69 inches, adjusted altitude 2,509 feet, track temperature 101 degrees. Diehl did not make a run in the first qualifying session. Force spun the rear tires at 330 feet and clicked it off. This time, Force's car looked like it was on a good run but quit at the eighth-mile mark. Diehl's car launched slowly and never got up to speed.

Both drivers took their cars down the groove with their best runs of the day. Johnson moved up 10 spots in the order, Campbell moved up three spots. Johnson's run ties the track speed record for Funny Car.

Todd got about 400 feet out when he started smoking the rear tires, then the back tires got loose and the back end of the car started swinging back and forth. Pedregon lost a cylinder but still managed to move up seven spots in the order.

Worsham took his car down the groove. He was quicker than in the first session but not enough to move up in the order. Tasca got to the eighth-mile marker when his car lost power.

Lindberg launched and immediately smoked the rear tires and clicked it off. DeJoria had a good run down the track but after she let out the chutes, there was smoke and a flash of fire from underneath the car. She pulled the car to the side and got out through the hatch. DeJoria moved up two spots in the qualifying order with this run.

As soon as Wilkerson's car launched, it shook the rear tires hard and he clicked it off. Beckman moved up nine spots in the order with a run that broke the track speed record that was set last year by Matt Hagan and tied earlier in this session by Johnson.
