Scigliuto, Clark score; Nash, Dreher win second Summit National titles

Since the creation of the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in 2000, a handful of drivers have earned a spot in the special event more than once, but entering this year's contest, no competitor had won the event more than once. That all changed when Micheal Nash and Greg Dreher each picked up a second Summit Racing Series National Championship trophy. With a big number 1 prominently displayed on the front of his motorcycle, Nash scored a second straight win in Super Pro Motorcycle. Dreher added this year's Sportsman title to the one he scored in 2001. David Scigliuto (Super Pro) and Dennis Clark (Pro) were also victorious during the event, which featured the champions from each division's NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals.

Scigliuto, representing Division 2, defeated Division 5 representative Bruce Main to earn top honors in Super Pro. Representing Division 4, Clark bested Division 1's Andrew Bracuto for the Pro title. In Sportsman, Division 7's Dreher topped Division 5 runner Tim Lewandowski. Division 4 ace Nash beat Division 3's Jesse Moyar in the Super Pro Motorcycle final.

Each winner received $5,000, a jacket, champion's trophy, and NHRA Gold Card. All qualifiers were guaranteed a minimum of $3,500.

Prior to the on-track activities, the 28 drivers were welcomed during a special banquet and ceremony held Nov. 1 at The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California in Pomona. Competitors were welcomed by Summit's Don Lower and Jeff Winters; NHRA's Dick Wells, Peter Clifford, Graham Light, Adriane Ridder, Gary Darcy, Bob Lang, Bill Holt, Jay Hullinger, Craig Hutchinson, Rob Park, Jonathan Adams, and Mike Rice; and NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series competitors Greg Anderson, Jason Line, Craig Treble, and Hillary Will. NHRA's Johnny Moto was the event's emcee. At the ceremony, Anderson, Line, Treble, and Will conducted a random drawing to determine qualifying positions for the event. The No. 1 driver on the ladder received the first-round bye, and pairs were made of the second and fifth drivers, third and sixth, and fourth and seventh.
