Heartland Park treats home fans to victory at NHRA West Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals

TOPEKA , Kan. - The best racers from across the NHRA's West Central division converged on Heartland Park Topeka this weekend for the NHRA Summit Racing Series Division Finals. In the end, the home team from Heartland Park Topeka took home the team title.

J.R. Lobner of Gardner, Kan., faced off against Tom Carlson from Two Harbors , Minn., in the finals of Super Pro and prevailed victorious. His time of 10.718 was good enough to give him the top spot. Emporia, Kan., resident Troy Ross came up one victory shy of winning the Pro class when he fell to Andy Schmall from Lino Lakes, Minn. Schmall piloted his '71 Vega to a top speed of 126.34 mph. giving top honors in the Pro class.

Tim Lewandowski of St. Paul, Minn., drove his '55 BelAir to victory in the Sportsman class. Barmettler came out with the win riding his '78 Kawasaki to a time of 10.211 seconds. And in the High School finals Todd Piper of Wamego, Kan., came close enough to smell victory but would come no closer. Piper lost in the finals to Cale Crispe of Lakewood, Colo., who represented Bandimere Speedway and drove a '64 Nova.
