FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NHRA racers battle in Lucas Oil Series at Mid-Michigan Motorplex

STANTON, Mich. - Mid-Michigan Motorplex will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Auto Value Bumper-to-Bumper Parts Stores, the second of six races in NHRA North Central Division competition, June 18-20. The event will feature more than 500 drivers in eight categories competing for points leading to divisional and national championships.

Classes will include 250-mph Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) as well as Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. The division's Top Sportsman class will also run in conjunction with the event.

Alcohol Dragster (TAD) pilot Jeff Wilson comes from Winfield, Mo., to Stanton riding high off his victory at the North Central Division's 2004 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Wilson, who won at Mid-Michigan in 2002 will be challenged hard by the likes of defending champion Marty Thacker, who was the number one qualifier at Indy and recorded the best times of that event, 5.420 seconds and 263.67 mph. Also figuring in the mix will be Bill Reichert and his 270 mph-plus Bar's Leak dragster from Owasso, Mich. West Central division invader David Wells opened the North Central 2003 campaign with a win in Chicago, but Wilson, Thacker and Reichert gabbled up the remaining five. Wilson edged out Thacker for the North Central Championship.

Mick Snyder comes into the Mid-Michigan event with momentum from a stunning win at Indy, stopping veteran Danny Townsend in the final. Both of them along with Paul Lee, who recently won national events in Atlanta and Topeka, will have to contend with five-time Division Champion Chuck Cheeseman of Galena, Ohio. In 2003, Cheeseman won five of six events in the division to win his fifth North Central Division title. He hopes that he can repeat that scenario again in 2004.

Gates at Mid-Michigan Motorplex open at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday and at 7 a.m. Sunday.
