FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NHRA Lucas Oil competition heats up at Infineon Raceway

SONOMA, Calif. - Infineon Raceway will host the Bank of the West InReach Internet Golden Gate SummerNationals, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, June 28-30. The event will feature more than 500 drivers in eight racing categories including 260-mph Top Alcohol Dragsters (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Cars (TAFC). It is the fourth of six races in Pacific Division competition.

Midway through the Pacific Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, there is still no clear leader in the Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) class. In Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC), it seems that defending division champion Steve Gasparrelli may be the one to catch for the other competitors.

Paul Jones is leading the TAD points but the Stockton, Calif., resident is not currently competing. Just behind him is Darren Nicholson of Mission Viejo, Calif., with a win at Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., a runner-up finish at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, and a semifinal appearance at the division's last event at Sacramento Raceway Park. Las Vegas resident Duane Shields is in third place. He has been to the final round at both the divisional races he's attended, winning the season-opener in Phoenix and scoring runner-up points in Sacramento.

In TAFC, Gasparrelli of West Covina, Calif., is two for two in division competition, scoring wins in Phoenix and Sacramento. Veteran driver Mert Littlefield of Garden Grove, Calif., Doug Gordon of Paso Robles, Calif., and Hanford, Calif., resident John Weaver also have the potential to win the division if they can find the consistency that has eluded them to this point.

In Super Stock action, at the last division race at Sacramento, event winner Kyle Seipel beat the entire three-car team of division rival, Jim DeFrank. In the first round the San Lorenzo, Calif., resident beat defending division champion Jimmy DeFrank of Tarzana, Calif. Then, in the third round Seipel took the win over DeFrank team member John Scheiss of Supulveda, Calif., and, in the final, beat Tony DeFrank, also of Tarzana. The win put Seipel in second place in the Super Stock point standings.

Gates at Infineon Racewayopen at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials for Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street begin Friday at 8:15 a.m. Qualifying and time trials continue Saturday at 8:15 a.m. and TAD and TAFC are scheduled to run at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 8:15 a.m. TAD and TAFC will run first round at noon.

Adult tickets are $5 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

The event is part of a 45-race, $6.5 million series contested across the country. Drivers are competing for a part of a $561,000 champions' purse. They will earn points leading to national and division titles as well as a berth on the team that will represent the Pacific Division at the Jeg's Allstar event held at the NHRA National at Route 66 Raceway in Chicago in September.

Infineon Raceway is located north of San Rafael, at the junction of Highways 37 and 121. For more information call the track, (800) 870-RACE, or visit www.infineonraceway.com.
