Sunday Eliminations:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bradshaw and Chesterman Kings Of The Mountain
Denver - After entering today's eliminations as the top qualifier in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, Alan Bradshaw and Cy Chesterman took home wins at Thunder on the Mountain, a Zac's Legacy Foundation.
The only time that Odessa, Texas, resident Bradshaw, faced anyone was in the semifinals, when he was paired against Edwin Schmeeckle of Gothenburg, Neb. Schmeeckle, who was coming off his first career win two weeks ago in Brainerd, Minn., was unable to make a bid for a second straight win after having engine problems 200 feet down the quarter-mile.
After being uncontested in the first round, Bradshaw also enjoyed the luxury of a second bye in the final to take home the easy win.
Dragster pilot Kent Nuckols had a bye in the other semifinal match-up, but the Albuquerque, N.M., resident failed to advance into the final to face Bradshaw after mechanical problems prevented him from making a pass in the semifinals.
Top Alcohol Funny Car competition was much more intense, as the top two qualifiers faced off in the finals. Chesterman and Kirk Williams were side by side down the entire track, but it was Chesterman of Sioux City, Iowa, who earned the win lights after a 6.063-second, 238.89-mph pass.
Winners in other classes were Bill Kent of Midland, Texas, in Comp; David Bogner of Kearney, Neb., in Super Stock; Rick Wessels of Belle Fourche, S.D., in Stock; Terry Ekart of Manhattan, Kan., in Super Comp; Charles Manthei of Colorado Springs, Colo., in Super Gas; and Dale Gebhart of Fairland, Okla., in Super Street. Dale Detlie of Owatanna, Minn., took the win in NHRA Kerker Motorcycle Series racing.
