In a ceremony in the Assembly Room at City Hall, Mayor Neil Giuliano proclaimed February 21, 2002 as Kenny Bernstein Day in Tempe, Arizona. The proclamation said in part:
"WHEREAS, Kenny Bernstein has been racing on both the NHRA and NASCAR circuits and thrilling fans with Budweiser for more than twenty years; and
WHEREAS, his dedication to the sport of racing has landed him four consecutive NHRA Winston Championships, two Top Fuel Championships, and the 1990 "Person of the Year" by Car Craft Magazine; and
WHEREAS, Kenny's impact on the sport of racing is evident through not only highlights, but through his legacy as well as the future legacy of his son; and
WHEREAS, the 2002 "Forever Red…A Run to Remember" tour is the final culmination of Kenny Bernstein's 23 impeccable years with the Budweiser Racing Team
WHEREAS, the influence of sports stars on community involvement is immeasurable and we commend Kenny on the work that he has done
Now, therefore, I, NEIL G. GIULIANO, Mayor of the City of Tempe, Arizona, do hereby declare: February 21, 2002 Kenny Bernstein Day in Tempe, Arizona."
