With the NHRA Countdown on the horizon John Force Racing is ready to get the Charlotte area NHRA fans fired up for the kick-off to the playoffs.  On Thursday, September 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. all four JFR drivers will be at Town and Country Ford signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. It will be a great opportunity for fans to meet all four Countdown qualified drivers including the No. 1 and No. 2 Mello Yello Funny Car drivers John Force and Robert Hight as well as No. 6 Courtney Force and in Top Fuel No. 9 Brittany Force.

“Getting a chance to talk with fans and Ford customers is really a great way to start race weekend. We love getting the race weekend started by meeting the fans at Town and Country Ford. We have signed at this dealership before and the crowds are always really fun. It will be a cool chance to meet all four of the JFR Funny Car drivers away from the track,” said Hight.

Town and Country Ford is located at 5401 E. Independence Blvd., Charlotte, North Carolina. Media contacts Elon Werner, 214-244-1184 and Sarah Adams, 812-249-9823.

John Farkonas, one third of the team that fielded the famed Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car, died Aug. 22.

Farkonas teamed with crew chief Austin Coil and driver Pat Minick to create a drag racing legend that today remains among the most revered of Funny Cars. While Coil supplied the hands-on tuning savvy and Minick was the driver who whipped their Dodges through patented smokey burnouts, Farkonas, who had degrees in mechanical and industrial engineering, was the team’s thinker, and well ahead of his time.

“John Farkonas was one of the smartest men I have known,” said Coil. “Many of the formulas I used throughout my career were based on equations John did longhand back in the early '70s.”

Although Farkonas stopped actively traveling with the team early in its long run, he remained a behind-the-scenes force, and when the famed Farkonas-Coil-Minick Chi-Town Hustler won back-to-back world championships in 1982-83 with driver Frank Hawley, Farkonas’ impact was still being felt. The original trio was reunited in 1997 when they were inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Farkonas is survived by his wife, Goldie; daughter Anne-Renee; brother Tom; and other relatives.
