Ford still leads Manufacturers Cup
Friday, October 18, 2013
With just three events left at which to earn points, Ford continues to lead the NHRA Manufacturers Cup battle, with Dodge in second place, Chevrolet third, and Toyota fourth.
The automobile manufacturer whose 2013 models earn the most points for qualifying and category victories at NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional and divisional events will be awarded the NHRA Manufacturers Cup for performance achievement at the end of the season.
Points are awarded to entries in Funny Car, Pro Stock, Super Stock, and Stock as follows: 60 points for an eliminator victory, 40 points for an eliminator runner-up, and 20 points for an eliminator qualification.
Although Chevrolet has amassed more points than Ford on the divisional level, performances by the blue oval racers on the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series have made the difference that keeps Ford ahead. Ford has won the last two NHRA Manufacturers Cup titles after a 30-year drought. Ford also won the first two NHRA Manufacturers Cups, in 1964 and ’65.
